1956 – As the World Turns and The Edge of Night premiere on CBS-TV. The two soaps become the first daytime dramas to debut in the 30-minute format. Prior to this, soap operas were 15 minutes each weekday. The Edge of Night switched to ABC-TV on December 1, 1975. As The World Turns expanded to 60 minutes on that same day on CBS.
